Hermandad Mexicana Nacional’s goal is to foster stronger connections among financial institutions and foundation representatives from local banks as well as members of the community.
Consistent gaps remain in the overall attainment of college education, investment opportunities, entrepreneurial skills, and access to financial education among low-income and Spanish-speaking communities. To address this, HMN has, over the past several years, worked with local financial institution branches to host financial literacy workshops to assist individuals with limited English acquisition, new citizens, soon-to-be citizens, and individuals with limited technical knowledge with their day-to-day financial issues.
With your ongoing support, we would like to continue our progress and provide workshops that address topics of most immediate concern to the communities we serve. Over the next year. We have selected the following topics for our proposed workshops and look forward to your input:
(1) Navigating financial institutions and understanding credit (the benefits and risks of credit, how to keep good credit, & avoiding financial burden with credit cards)
(2) Getting ready to become a homeowner
(3) Preparing to rent an apartment
(4) Designing, managing, and expanding plans that enable you to be free of debt.
(5) Navigating online technology to manage checking and saving accounts using phones
(6) Opening and managing a savings account
With 20 offices strategically located throughout Southern California and 210 units of affordable housing, HMN offers an abundance of opportunities to host workshops throughout Southern California, especially in areas where the need is highest. Such as three of our offices, North Hollywood, Pacoima, & Panorama City, and two of our affordable housing locations, Colonia Corona Apartments & Blythe Street. Together, HMN seeks to expand our “Financial Literacy Educational Program” and our partnership, ultimately helping to advise individuals and communities in terms of financial well-being and their future through education initiatives.
